Oreo Balls

Yield: 40-48 candies

Ingredients:

Crush the cookies in a blender, food processor, heavy-duty electric mixer, or by hand between two sheets of waxed paper. You don't want them broken down into powder, but you also don't want big chunks.

Add softened cream cheese to the cookie crumbs and mix thoroughly. I used my Bosch (electric mixer), but I am sure you could work on your triceps and mix them by hand. Now, I know what you're thinking and while I agree with you, I need you to just hold on. Trust me! Once it is mixed it slightly resembles the look of the stuff we used to make mud pies with, as kids. But, I promise, appearance is the only resemblance. Be brave! Taste it! Yum!p>

Okay, hearken back to those preschool days, one more time, and remember all the fun you had with play dough. Roll this delectable mixture into balls about 1½ inches in diameter. Yes! Yes! Yes! It's messy. Your hands will get dirty. But seriously, you know you're going to lick them. Just go with it.

Lay the rolled balls onto a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and put the cookie sheet in the freezer for about 15 minutes or in the fridge for about an hour. Once the Oreo balls have set up firmly, it's time for the last step.

Here's where you get to be creative. You can use any flavor chip that sounds good to you, today (white chocolate, peanut butter, milk chocolate, semi-sweet, mint). I happened to select chocolate mint. Heavenly! Pour the whole bag of chips into a microwave safe bowl and melt them using your defrost setting. Mine took about 2 minutes. Check yours periodically and give them a stir to see how they are coming. Every microwave is a little different.

Remove the melted chips and dip each Oreo ball into the chocolate to coat them. Place them back on the waxed paper to set up while you dip the rest. Drizzle any remaining chocolate over the dipped candies, for a decorative effect (and to get more chocolate).

When I had finished I had 41 Oreo Balls. I'm guessing with the amount of dough that my daughter and I consumed throughout the process (All good chefs taste as they go. I'm sure it's a rule, somewhere.), you would probably get close to an even 4 dozen, if you restrained yourself and your family.

These set up in a matter of minutes and they are creamy, crunchy, chocolatey delight! You'll love them!
